VICTORY for Victory!

I was unsure about the union at first. Earlier this year the company attempted to fire me because I felt uncomfortable with my manager at work. Because I had a union, not only did I have a representative with me at every step of the investigation process but the union also worked diligently for months to stop the company from wrongfully terminating me. As a result, I am back to work and a proud Union supporter. I’ve truly learned the meaning of “solidarity”.                  – Victory Eshareturi

Yes, we can.

Union Victory at Verizon Wireless Store In Everett, MA

“CWA just heidi everettsaved my job.” – Heidi, Everett, MA Verizon Wireless worker & member of CWA Local 1400. Verizon Wireless workers as a union in Everett, MA won a significant victory this week! Several months ago, the union filed an Unfair Labor Practice when the company began unilaterally enforcing the absence and lateness policy more stringently. As a result, many of the workers in Everett began receiving discipline for alleged lateness or absences. The company was forced to settle this charge by removing all discipline from current employees, and putting everyone back down to “zero” latenesses or tardies. Three members were on the cusp of being terminated due to wrongful discipline; CWA saved these jobs. As part of the settlement the company admitted no illegal wrongdoing. Though for some reason they did find it necessary to undo everything they had done… The labor board is also issuing a complaint against VZW for removing union literature from the break room. This is of course illegal for the company to do.
This is an important win. The company was forced to back off their unfair policies, and our members were protected.

Mike Tisei addresses thousands at Verizon union rally

Good afternoon Brothers and Sisters! My name is Mike Tisei. I am a newly elected Chief Steward for the Verizon Wireless store in Everett, Massachussetts. Soon after our brothers and sisters in Brooklyn paved the way, we decided that we too wanted a voice on the job. And like our Brooklyn counterparts, we banded together and withstood the unethical, coercive, threatening campaign by management . We continued the movement, and voted to join CWA Local 1400.

It’s funny, all across the country now, Verizon Wireless management has had forced captive audience meetings with call center workers, with techs, and with retail workers warning us not to join together and form a union. They claim that CWA will just take our money, will force us to go on strike, will invade our stores, will bargain a contract that could make things worse. They say our union is a dying business that just wants our dues. While they make these threats and these lies, the top executives are pocketing millions and millions of dollars that we earned for them. In fact, if you take all the top executives together, they make about $20,000 per hour. So get this, while the top execs are stuffing cash that we earned for them into their own fat pockets, management spends millions warning their wireless workers not to join together. It is disgusting. Brothers and Sisters, for years, retail workers at Verizon have drunk the kool-aid. We thought that we had the best jobs, we thought we had it made. But over the years, with no union to protect us, management has been stripping away our pay, and weakening our job security. We were asleep for a long time, but brothers and sisters, but retail workers at Verizon Wireless are waking up! Thousands of us are talking to eachother now on CWA’s facebook page Verizon Workers Rising. Management didn’t have enough union busters on staff to deal with us – the only place in the company they are hiring is in their union-busting department! Let me close by saying this: I have a new baby at home. As I start my family, I will fight  with everything I have to protect my job and my ability to care for my son. Like all of you in the audience, I can’t fight Verizon alone. That is why I voted to join CWA. I now have an army behind me. The army is 38,000 strong. We support you just as you have supported us in our fight against Verizon. You have more friends in wireless than ever before. Thank you brother and sisterss!

VERIZON WIRELESS: NEGOTIATE FAIRLY WITH WORKERS

We, the undersigned, stand by our bargaining team as they negotiate for a first contract with Verizon Wireless.

Why is this important?

As front line retail workers at Verizon Wireless, our work is critical in making this company function and prosper. Verizon has made over 9 Billion in profits last year alone. It is time for management to negotiate a fair deal. We stand behind all our brothers and sisters, in wireline and wireless. We are more unified than ever. We voted to form a union so we could have a voice at work. It is time for upper management to negotiate fairly at the bargaining table.   Sign here: https://www.coworker.org/petitions/verizon-wireless-negotiate-fairly-with-workers

CWA-VZW Bargaining Update from Bianca, Tatiana & Gill from Brooklyn and Everett

Dear Co-workers We wanted to email everyone with an update on bargaining. When we started negotiations with VZW, we really thought, and hoped, that the company would want to listen to our concerns and be reasonable. We proposed improvements to our compensation and a fair procedure to ensure job security.  This past Saturday, over 8000 CWA and IBEW members rallied in front of VZ headquarters at 140 West Street. It was an amazing show of force. Bianca from Brooklyn and Mike from Everett spoke, and the crowd went wild in support. The solidarity and support shown to us by our union brothers and sisters has been amazing.
Here is a brief video of Bianca’s speech. We think you will enjoy watching.

We are now distributing brand new VZW Union shirts — if you don’t get one by Friday, email us.
This company made almost 10 Billion in profits last year. They must make movement now on our wages.

We are working hard on your behalf to get a fair first contract. When we stick together, we can win. In Unity

Dear Co-Worker @ Verizon Wireless,

We are the elected bargaining teams from Verizon landline, Verizon Wireless technicians, and Verizon Wireless Retail. We are workers in Verizon, just like you.

Tear Down the Wall

For years, our company has put up a wall separating Verizon wireline workers from Verizon Wireless workers. On one side of that wall, Verizon landline workers enjoy the protections and higher pay and better benefits of belonging to our union. The company has tried everything to keep wireless workers out of the union. But things are now changing.

Wireless Workers are Joining Our Union

In 1989, Verizon Wireless technicians in the NYC area joined the union, and as a result, enjoy better pay and stronger job security than their non-union counterparts. In 2014, all Verizon Wireless workers in Brooklyn joined the union, and a few months later, wireless workers in Everett, Mass voted to join the union too.

Now, all 35,000 landline workers, and 200 Verizon Wireless workers in both retail and tech are bargaining for a new contract. Although we are bargaining different contracts, we are acting as one union. We know that through solidarity and unity, Verizon landline and Verizon wireless workers are stronger together.

We Are Stronger Together

We know that management has tried to scare many of you away from your union brothers and sisters; unfortunately, management has not told the truth about our union, about dues, etc. Just about everything they say about us is not true. We are workers like you. We work for the same company. The more of us that join together, the stronger we will be. This fact scares the company.

August 1

We continue to negotiate for a historic first contract for retail workers in Brooklyn and Everett, MA. On August 1, our contract with wireless techs and landline workers expire. In the coming months, we certainly hope that the company – which reaped 4.22 BILLION in profits last year– agrees to negotiate in good faith for a fair contract for both landline and wireless techs and retail workers. If they don’t negotiate fairly, we will soon use our power and collective voice to educate customers about our struggle for justice. In this event, we will be back at this store – but we want you to know that our dispute is with those at the top, not with the hard working Experience and Solutions Specialists at Verizon Wireless. We invite you to join our movement.

Call us at 347-979-2929 anonymously for more info.

In Unity!
