VZ CEO agrees that workers have a right to join unions

Breaking News! In a first, CEO Hans Vestberg agreed that workers have a right to organize without any intimidation! Now is the time to reach out to CWA.

We have some really exciting news: Verizon faced the heat today from Verizon Wireless workers at the company’s annual shareholder meeting in Orlando, Florida. Jennifer Womack a call center in Irving, Texas, took a brave stand to face Verizon Chairman and CEO Hans Vestberg and ask him point blank, once and for all: why is Verizon so scared of workers joining a union?

Jennifer had a frank, direct conversation with Mr. Vestberg in which she detailed the struggles faced by Verizon Wireless workers, including the intense pressure put on them by the company to hit unattainable goals and being thrown into new responsibilities with little or no training.

“Inadequate training, scheduled workdays being changed with little notice at all, medical leave not being paid. And then also retaliation. We’ve had some meetings [with management] about not meeting with the union, not talking to the union, and we feel like we’re being harassed and bullied.”

Mr. Vestburg responded by noting that “We’re all here to make the company better,” and went on to commit that, “Employees have all the right to [join unions]. And of course we are supporting whatever decision you’re making.

Check out video of their conversation here:

In addition to Jennifer and other VZW workers, the Communications Workers of America presented a shareholder proposal calling for an independent board chair, highlighting the need for oversight and accountability as the company undertakes risky new business strategies and internal restructuring.

Now that the CEO of Verizon is agreeing that workers have the right to organize without fear, this is the time to reach out to your union to help gain a voice at work. Call us at 347-979-2929.

VZW Retail Workers Score Huge Victories in New Union Contract!

Two years ago after Verizon Wireless workers in Brooklyn, NY stood shoulder-to-shoulder with 36,000 other Verizon workers to win a union contract, the Communications Workers of America have come to a tentative agreement with Verizon on a four-year contract extension! The new breakthrough contract will include:

  • More money
    • Members will participate in the annual merit based process in the same fashion as similarly-situated employees, but the pool available cannot drop lower than:
      • 3% effective June 2020
      • 2.75% effective June 2021
      • 2.5% effective June 2022
      • 2.5% effective June 2023
    • One-time ratification bonus of $900 for full-time Brooklyn workers ($450 for part-time) given out within 30 days of signing the new contract.
  • Input on improvements to scheduling – Quarterly meetings will be held between Management and the union to discuss further improvements that can be made to scheduling.
  • Less arbitrary scheduling – Members will now be able to challenge arbitrary changes in scheduling, vacations, holidays, or personal days through the grievance and arbitration process.
  • Better standards for overtime scheduling – managers will be required to seek volunteers for overtime work when additional coverage is required. If there are no volunteers, managers will be required to select the employee who has had the longest time since being required to work overtime.

Brooklyn VZW workers met on Tuesday night to go over the new contract details and there was a palpable excitement about these huge victories – but sticking to union democracy, a vote to ratify the new contract will be held over the next few weeks, with results coming on August 10.

It hasn’t been an easy victory, but the wage increases and the ability to have a say in our scheduling and work life was worth the fight. Joining a union has paid off for us – it can pay off for you too.

Hazelton VZW store votes to join CWA!

This movement just got a little bigger.

Verizon Wireless workers in Hazelton, PA voted in an overwhelming majority this morning to join the Communications Workers of America, becoming the latest group of VZW workers to join the movement that’s spreading throughout the country. Taking the first steps to organize and join a union are never easy – the Hazelton crew was faced with an intense anti union campaign, and were subjected to near constant meetings with high level managers.

But they stuck together, and stayed strong. They insisted on a voice at work to address a lack of job security, favoritism, and diminishing commissions, and knew that by standing together they’d have the power to fight back, gain a voice in their work, and help build this movement.

“I voted for a union because Verizon Wireless workers like me deserve a fair shake,” said Thomas Leshko, who’s been with Verizon Wireless for four years. “Through a union, we’ll be able to stand together for good, family supporting jobs at our store. Verizon is enjoying huge profits and a big tax break. Now it’s time for the company to invest in Pennsylvania workers and customers.”

We’re getting bigger, and getting stronger. With each new set of workers that takes the step to join together and fight for their voice on the job, we all get that much stronger. The Hazelton workers took that step – you can too.

That sounded like a prayer. A prayer in a public school. God has no place within these walls, just like facts don’t have a place within an organized religion. Son, a woman is like a beer. They smell good, they look good, you’d step over your own mother just to get one! But you can’t stop at one. You wanna drink another woman! The Internet King? I wonder if he could provide faster nudity.

Books are useless! I only ever read one book, “To Kill A Mockingbird,” and it gave me absolutely no insight on how to kill mockingbirds! Sure it taught me not to judge a man by the color of his skin…but what good does *that* do me? I’m a Spalding Gray in a Rick Dees world. You don’t win friends with salad. The Internet King? I wonder if he could provide faster nudity.

There’s one way and only one way to determine if an animal is intelligent. Dissect its brain! It’s a T. It goes “tuh”. Anyone who laughs is a communist! Morbo will now introduce tonight’s candidates… Morbo’s good friend, Richard Nixon.

Lisa, vampires are make-believe, like elves, gremlins, and Eskimos. We started out like Romeo and Juliet, but it ended up in tragedy. Attempted murder? Now honestly, what is that? Do they give a Nobel Prize for attempted chemistry? Get ready, skanks! It’s time for the truth train! Books are useless! I only ever read one book, “To Kill A Mockingbird,” and it gave me absolutely no insight on how to kill mockingbirds!
