Victory! Mid Hudson Verizon Wireless Retail Workers Win Improvements On The Job

By Zahra Awadallah – Sales Rep, Fishkill NY In my district, many of us were unhappy about the way managements was treating us. Amongst our grievances were a new half hour lunch policy, our lack of breaks, and sudden schedule changes made frequently. We decided that enough was enough. We joined together with the help of CWA to sign a petition requesting a choice of hour or half hour lunch breaks, regular daily breaks, and a consistent schedule. As we worked to gather signatures, our management became aware of our efforts. They immediately started addressing our concerns before our district manager was even delivered the petition. Our unified effort and teamwork were the keys to the success of our petition. We are now being given the option of half hour or hour breaks, two 15 minute breaks every day, and reasonable warning before schedule changes! Verizon Wireless management is nervous because of our Brooklyn co-workers successful organizing drive. Now is the time to make demands.
